That's me standing in front of the Stearman, which is parked in front of my friend Roy's neighbor's hangar. His neighbor was nice enough to let him store his plane there.
My friend Roy and another fellow rider are taxiing out from the hangar to the ramp area in front of Roy's home.
Here's Roy preflighting the aircraft by checking the oil and running the prop through to lubricate the cylinders. Roy's home is to the right, just out of the picture.
That's me in the front seat giving the "thumbs up" sign as we are getting ready to taxi out to the runway for takeoff.
At the time I snapped this shot, I thought it was a good idea, however, all you can see is the wing and piece of the pasture we were flying over. We are in a left bank at about a 45 degree angle.
This is what the front cockpit looks like. The altimeter indicates that we are level at 5,500 feet MSL, the tachometer is set to 1,900 RPM, and we are cruising at just over 80 MPH.
Check out the open cockpits! Sitting up front just behind that huge Pratt and Whitney radial was not only deafining, but very warm thanks to all of the heat that the engine put out!
